I have an A.S. in Social Science and plan to go farther--I'm 18, my name is Rachel, and psychology and neuroscience are the greatest. I'm fascinated by people's minds and the brain. Hence the URL. I'm an atheist, a skeptic, and unorthodox. I don't like authority, rules, conformity, or structure. Relatively new to tumblr.
late night musings & reblogs
If neuroscientists were one day able to predict your every action and decision based on brain scans, will you abandon the concept of free will? The vast majority of people think we have free will and are the authors of our own life stories. But if neuroscientists were one day able to predict our every action based on brain scans, would people abandon this belief in droves? A new study concludes that such knowledge would not by itself be enough to shake our confidence in our own volition.Author Sam Harris puts it: “If determinism is true, the future is set – and this includes all our future states of mind and our subsequent behaviour.”
Good article, this. I actually don’t think we have free will, the quantum behavior of small particles could affect how our neurons fire which could affect our behavior…you never know.
Unless you have one or more of the following criteria in sections A, B, and C, and two or more of the following in D and E, as well as criteria F, G and H, THEN YOU DO NOT HAVE PTSD. STOP MARGINALIZING PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY DO.
A. Exposure to actual or threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violence in one (or more) of the following ways:
1. Directly experiencing the traumatic event(s).
2. Witnessing, in person, the event(s) as it occurred to others.
3. Learning that the traumatic event(s) occurred to a close family member or close friend. In cases of actual or threatened death of a family member or friend, the event(s) must have been violent or accidental.
4. Experiencing repeated or extreme exposure to aversive details of the traumatic event(s) (e.g., first responders collecting human remains; police officers repeatedly exposed to details of child abuse).
Note: Criterion A4 does not apply to exposure through electronic media, television, movies, or pictures, unless this exposure is work related.
"Do oyu mind talking about psychology and neuroscience with me? I'm not looking for advice, just some psychiatry questions."
sure! if you have questions go ahead and ask away!
if this isn’t on your blog i think i’m going to have a problem with you.
I don’t think most of you know, but this girl has, or had, a tumblr. She was getting anon hate of being accused that she didn’t have cancer because she had hair in her photo. Thus, getting her to make this gif. See that fake smile? Can you see how firmly she’s holding everything in? Wow, I know.
I don’t care what blog type you have. Reblog this.
Prostitution is illegal because it has the potential to give women ownership of their sexuality and there’s no way that can be allowed.
That awkward moment when male prostitutes are also illegal, thus making your statement exactly what it is: bullshit.
What a trainwreck
